Physical Education (PE)

Pupils are taught a wide range of skills and competencies across a range of key concepts.  We acknowledge the importance for all of our pupils to be physically active on a regular basis.  In doing so, we promote increased fitness, healthy minds and positive lifestyle choices.

Through our curriculum, pupils:

  • Learn and apply the key concepts accurate replication, developing physical and mental capacity, development of skills / performance, outwitting opponents, problem solving;
  • Make informed choices about healthy lifestyles;
  • Review and develop through evaluation.

Year 6

Content

Skills

Invasion Games

Acquire basic skills – send, receive, phase 1 defending. Knowledge of positions and rules.

Dance

Invasion Games

Pairs balance and counter balance sequence on floor. Match/mirror. Cannon / unison. Acquire basic skills – pass, dribble, control, tackle. Concepts of attack and defence. Positions and rules.

Net/wall Games

Invasion Games

Acquire basic badminton skills – grip, serve, rally, rules. 3 shot rally. Acquire basic rugby skills – pass, receive, tagging, defending, beating a defender.

Net/wall Games

Invasion Games

Groundstrokes from hand feed and racket feed, short rally, shot selection. Acquire basic hockey skills – send, receive, dribble, tackle.

Athletic activities

Acquire correct running / sprinting technique – posture, knee drive, lip to hip, still head. Basic relay changeover.

Striking and Fielding

Net/wall Games

Technique of throwing and catching over short distances. Stopping and fielding the ball on the floor. Making contact with the ball when batting. Learning and remembering basic rules. Develop groundstrokes from hand feed and racket feed, short rally, shot selection. Basic overarm serve.

Invasion Games

Send and receive, attacking and defending, scoring, using space, tackling, intercepting, communication.

Invasion Games and HRE

Send and receive, attacking and defending, scoring, using space, tackling, intercepting, communication – progression from tag to contact rugby. Taking part to maximum levels, matching activities with components of fitness.

Invasion & Net/Wall Games

Develop basic skills to be able to rally, play ½ court singles and full court singles. Develop skills of send, receive, dribble, and tackle. Performing skills with control, accuracy and consistency.

OAA & Gym/Dance

Acquire basic map reading skills – using a key, recognising symbols, map orientation. CV endurance, teamwork and communication. Pairs balance and counter balance sequence on apparatus. Match/mirror. Cannon / unison. Getting into and out of balances, plus travel.

Athletic Activities Striking / fielding, net / wall games

Sprint starts, race management, pacing. Acquire and develop correct jumping and develop relay changeover – pass baton at speed-throwing technique.

Develop basic bowling technique, consistency and accuracy of hitting, long and short barriers on the floor. Develop knowledge of the rules and scoring. Consolidate basic skills in singles play. Accuracy, consistency.

 

Year 8

Invasion Games

Apply skills of send, receive and 3 phases of sending consistently and when under pressure. Apply basic and more complex skills and concepts to competitive situations. 3v3, 4v4 etc

HRE

Invasion Games

Develop and apply fitness knowledge - designing a circuit in small groups. Tackling a moving player, setting up a ruck, setting a defensive line, playing by the rules

Net/wall Games.

Invasion Games.

Apply skills used in singles to doubles match play. Running tournaments on own court. Apply skills of send, receive, dribble, and tackle with control, accuracy and consistency in a competitive situation.

Net/wall Games

Invasion Games

Develop basis skills to enable doubles ½ court game play then full court. (Officiating and taking on other roles) Emphasis on taking on other roles. Knowing rules, application of rules, use of whistle, ability to give clear instructions.

Athletic Activities

Performing at maximum levels. Develop and consolidate correct jumping and throwing technique. Develop relay changeover and order of runners. Race tactics.

Striking and fielding.

Net/wall Games

Technique of throwing and catching over longer distances. Bowling technique. Aiming and scoring when batting. Decision making. Umpiring Apply key skills, techniques and strategies to doubles. Tactics – make opponent move, play.
